Goldfinch Feeders by Droll

Droll designs their bird feeders with the user in mind. The bird being the primary user. The Droll Yankees 36 inch 20-port Thistle Seed Feeder for Finches is the perfect example of this. Bigger birds don't like the feeder and so it used only by the finches that visit your yard.

The feeder ports are off-set so many birds are able to visit the feeder all at once. The construction of the feeder, just like every other Droll product, is sturdy and the materials are designed to last a lifetime. The Nyjer seed used in the feeder is a favorite of finches so be prepared for a feeding frenzy!

The Yankee Whipper

Now this bird feeder sounds a lot like the Yankee Flipper Bird Feeder. The difference with this feeder is that it doesn't actually "toss the squirrels off of the feeder. I know, I know. Where is the fun and entertainment in that? It is another squirrel-proof feeder made by Droll, but the Yankee Whipper works a bit differently.

This feeder has collapsible mechanical perch rods that are weight-activated. When the squirrels get on them the weight of the squirrel causes the squirrel to fall off.  The perch then re-sets itself automatically. About the largest size bird that is going to be able to perch on this feeder without activating it is a cardinal.

This is another well-built sturdy feeder from Droll that hangs from a stainless steel wire hanger, is a tubular style with 4 feed ports, and holds 5 pounds of seed. It is a lovely blue color and looks great in your garden.

Users did have some interesting things to say about the functionality of this feeder and it makes me wonder just what the brain capacity of a squirrel is... There heads are quite tiny after-all.

Here is the good and bad from some users:

- smarter squirrels can and do hang from the bottom of the feeder and still use it, although this can be prevented with a little ingenuity.

- Grackles can be a problem, they can still hang onto the curved perches and feed even when the perches drop down.

- individual perches allow several birds to feed at one time.

- save lots of bird seed and the smaller birds love it.

Droll Yankee Feeders

Some companies believe in delivering the highest quality product to their customers and Droll does just that with it's bird feeders. They are the leader in the industry when it comes to squirrel-proof bird feeders. It all started back in 1969 when Peter Kilham invented the A-6F tubular bird feeder. As an engineer and inventor he admired innovation and functionality and combining these two attributes led to the A-6F which birds love and people love to use.

The company offers one of the most outstanding warranties in the industry.
All Droll Yankee bird feeders are covered by a lifetime warranty against squirrel damage. Here is how their warranty reads

“Droll Yankees will replace any defective part free of charge for as long as you own your Droll Yankees feeder.  If your feeder is badly damaged by squirrels, to the extent that the effectiveness of the feeder is compromised, Droll Yankees will, at its option, either repair, replace or send replacement parts, free of charge.  This warranty does not extend to damage through neglect, accident, or misuse.”

The tubular feeder's design allows for no bird seed to be left in the bottom of the feeder when the the food runs out. It is easy to clean and replacement parts are easy to order if needed.

Years later the company has continued to come up with new designs to ward of squirrels. They even have the Yankee Flipper Bird Feeder that literally has a chargeable motor built in that causes the bottom of the feeder to spin and literally throw the squirrels off.

They also make window feeders, suet feeders, thistle feeders, peanut feeders, and even sunflower feeders. The classic A-6F is still available today and is still retro looking and the birds love it.

Yankee Flipper Bird Feeder

Figuring out what store to buy a  Yankee Flipper Bird Feeder from can be time consuming. If you don't want to waste anymore time you have come to the  right place.

They have different types of Droll Yankee Bird Feeders:
  • Squirrel Proof Bird Feeders
  • Sunflower Tube Feeders
  • Window Mount Bird Feeders
  • Thistle Seed Feeders
Here are a few other nice ones:

The Yankee Tipper has a weight-activated feeding tray that tips down when a squirrel gets on. The songbirds can eat all they want without being heavy enough to tip the tray down. Unlike the YF Flipper above, there is no sending the squirrels spinning and no electrical mechanism. Some people say the squirrels can hang on but for only long enough to get a few seeds and they soon get frustrated and leave.

The THDC Domed Thistle Wild Bird feeder is designed to let the small birds in and keep the larger birds and squirrels out. The see through dome allows you to view the birds while still protecting them from the weather. The tube is easy to remove for cleaning. Previous buyers have testified that they are durable and that they last. Some people have had this same model for seven years.
